US Stock Movement: Arm drops over 6% in pre-market trading, facing both profit-taking and an architecture crisis

Glonghui April 28th | After closing down 8% yesterday, Arm (ARM.US) fell more than 6% again in pre-market trading today, trading at $202.2. Analysts pointed out that Tianfeng International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said yesterday that a certain exchange is cooperating with OpenAI to develop dedicated smartphone chips. Investors are concerned that this new chip may no longer use ARM's architecture, or ARM's involvement may be very limited. Since this exchange has always been a core client of ARM, any major partnership that might "bypass" Arm will trigger deep fears about its future royalty income. This may be the direct reason for Arm's sharp decline. In addition, prior to the drop, the US semiconductor sector had experienced an "epic" rally. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) had risen for 18 consecutive trading days, marking the longest winning streak in history. From Arm’s own price movement, the stock had surged more than 50% in the past three weeks, driven by AI sentiment. Monday’s and today’s pre-market declines are widely seen as profit-taking and a correction of the excessive “AI halo” premium after an irrational frenzy triggered by Intel’s strong earnings report.
