ECB leaves investors uncertain about rate decisions with just two weeks remaining, cautions about a 'stacked series of disruptions'
ECB Policymakers Divided Ahead of Upcoming Meeting
With the next European Central Bank gathering less than two weeks away, officials remain split on the direction of interest rates. Market forecasts, based on LSEG data, suggest rates will likely stay unchanged at the April 29-30 session, with an increase anticipated in June. Most traders are betting that the ECB’s main rate will climb to at least 2.5% by year’s end, representing a rise of 50 basis points or more from current figures.
During an interview with CNBC at the IMF Spring Meeting in Washington, DC, Joachim Nagel, head of Germany’s Bundesbank, noted that fluctuations in oil prices have contributed to the uncertainty surrounding the ECB’s next steps.
