Eight companies, including NEC and Honda, will take stakes in the venture, and the Japanese government is also considering providing support. Through a collaboration between government and enterprises, the aim is to develop foundational models to address 'physical AI.' In addition to NEC and Honda, Sony Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Mizuho Bank, Nippon Steel, and Kobe Steel have also invested in the newly established Japanese AI foundational model development company located in Shibuya, Tokyo.
