Oil Prices and Market Sentiment
The current benchmark stands at $70 per barrel. Although oil is trading well above $100 per barrel today, the long-term outlook remains anchored at $70. This price reflects the market’s transformation over the years. Energy stocks now make up just 3% of total market value, having dropped by more than half since 2022 and even further compared to previous years.
This decline is the result of years spent prioritizing expansion over profitability, particularly between 2010 and 2014, when shareholder funds were often squandered in pursuit of growth. When profits are overlooked, the market eventually loses interest. Ultimately, the market serves as a judge, and the energy sector has fallen short of expectations—leading to a significant reduction in its overall value.
