Sam Altman plans to restructure OpenAI into a for-profit company, sources say
On May 31st, sources said that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is considering restructuring OpenAI into a formal for-profit company, with a focus on resolving the conflict between the company's non-profit nature and its revenue-generating business. According to a source who spoke with Sam Altman, one possibility is that Altman may transform OpenAI into a for-profit company, "he has also discussed this idea." Some of OpenAI's investors have expressed their hope that Altman will receive equity incentives to ensure his interests align with the company's business. Altman has this idea because the company needs to provide incentives to investors to attract a large amount of capital. If the company is not for-profit, it cannot provide incentives to investors and cannot achieve the expected goal of "attracting $100 billion in capital."
