Zhitong Finance APP noted that Hims & Hers Health (HIMS.US) closed up 6% on Thursday, after reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has submitted a temporary access policy for compounded pharmacies to produce peptide products for White House review.
The document was delivered Tuesday to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) under the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Two government officials told the media that the intention of the proposal is to allow compounded pharmacies to begin producing some of the most popular peptide products, such as BPC-157.
Peptide products have received support from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In February this year, he stated on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that he is a "super fan" of peptides, adding: "I've used them myself, and they worked really well for several injuries."
Despite a lack of scientific evidence, peptide products have also been touted on social media for their benefits in muscle gain, skin health, enhancing energy, and improving cognitive functions.
The secretary has previously advocated that peptide products should be manufactured in the United States, because currently most of the peptides used by Americans are produced overseas, raising concerns about their quality and safety.
At the most basic level, peptides are the building blocks of proteins, and the human body produces various peptides on its own.
In July of this year, an advisory committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted to allow compounded pharmacies to use BPC-157 for personalized treatment. The expert panel also recognized several other peptide products.
