One of the leading crypto figures has paid an emotional tribute to the profound influence his father had on his life.

"Death is abstract - until it is incredibly real," Garlinghouse wrote in a heartfelt social media post on X.

"He was the wisest, most thoughtful, most generous person I've ever known," he added.

Garlinghouse went on to explain how his father played various important roles in his life.

B. Kent Garlinghouse Sr. (1941-2026) was a well-known Kansas businessman, philanthropist, and supporter of education with a long career in manufacturing, banking, and the nonprofit sector.

Born in New York City, B. Kent Garlinghouse Sr. spent his childhood in St. Louis. He received his degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut before going on to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Harvard Business School.

He served as chairman of M-C Industries, Inc. (Polo Custom Products). This was a manufacturing company based in Topeka with locations in Iowa and Mississippi, and a presence in Asia.

In June 2024, Topeka Collegiate School recognized Kent, Susan, and the Garlinghouse family for funding a new educational space - the Center for Curiosity, Awe, and Wonder.

The center was part of a $7.3 million fundraising effort to expand the school's facilities.

Crypto community expresses condolences

Following Brad Garlinghouse's post, several big names in the crypto space shared their condolences.

President and chief operating officer of Coinbase, Emilie Choi, expressed her sympathy for the Ripple boss.

"Beautiful tribute. So sorry to hear about your loss," Choi tweeted.

Crypto pioneer Charles Hoskinson, Cardano's founder, also sent his sympathies. "Sorry to hear Brad. May he RIP," Hoskinson tweeted.

1. This week we focus on cross-asset positioning under an energy shock and arbitrage opportunities in tokenized-stock cash dividends. We recommend assessing market direction separately from income sources. Higher oil can weigh on growth valuations, lift inflation expectations, and spark expectations of Fed rate hikes, putting pressure on equities and crypto. 2. rToken net cash dividends can be distributed separately, but buying spot, shorting a perpetual, and holding across the record date does not automatically create an arbitrage. First confirm ex-dividend eligibility, platform snapshots, after-tax amounts, and the corporate-action rules for the short leg. Then compare funding fees, spreads, and execution costs. A dividend arbitrage strategy can be applied to STRC. 3. Next week's Fed decision and major technology earnings are key. Lower policy uncertainty can help restore risk appetite, but a sustained rebound still needs confirmation from rates, cloud growth, capital expenditure, and free cash flow. Our base case is a monthly-timeframe rebound in risk assets and crypto as earnings season, the Fed meeting, and the midterm elections pass and uncertainty recedes. Assets in focus: BTC, ETH, SOL, WTI, ASML, MSFT, GOOG, AMZN, CAT, and STRC
