According to data released by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), for the week ending October 20, speculative participants in the natural gas market increased their net short positions by 26,764 contracts in the four core trading markets of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), bringing the total net short positions to 126,900 contracts. This data shows that speculative capital has become more bearish on the future price trend of natural gas during this period. Generally, a significant increase in net short positions means that market participants widely anticipate a possible decline in natural gas prices going forward.
