MrBeast has begun promoting Step following Beast Industries’ acquisition of the financial technology company in February 2026, but the app still offers no active cryptocurrency trading service. The development comes nine months after Bitmine invested $200 million in Beast Industries, with the announcement highlighting potential decentralized finance (DeFi) integration into a future financial services platform.

Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson promoted Step in an October 17 video featuring a couple participating in a weight-loss challenge. He said he deposited $175,000 into each winner’s Step account. The video had drawn more than 93 million views.

Donaldson also promoted a $5 signup code for new users who fund their accounts and make a first card purchase of at least $5 within 30 days. He described Step as his “brand new banking app,” although the video description and the app’s Apple and Google listings state that Step is not a bank.

Banking services are provided by Evolve Bank & Trust. Step offers a Visa card, at least 1% cashback, and EarlyPay cash advances ranging from $20 to $250. The app also advertises 3% on savings, although its terms describe the payment as a promotional reward rather than interest.

Step, founded in 2018, said in February 2026 that it had attracted more than 7 million users.

Step’s terms were updated on September 26, 2026, with a change to how certain rewards are described. A section that previously referred to rewards paid in cryptocurrency or stock instead of cash now covers stock rewards only.

However, cryptocurrency references remain elsewhere in the terms. The broader definition of rewards still includes cryptocurrency, and points can still be redeemed for crypto when available.

The changes do not confirm that Step plans to restore crypto trading or introduce new digital asset services. Step had discontinued its crypto trading service in May 2024, including access for minors with parental permission. Whether the latest terms reflect a legal cleanup or a broader change in plans remains unclear.

Bitmine announced its $200 million investment in Beast Industries in January 2026. At the time, Beast Industries CEO Jeff Housenbold said the company looked forward to exploring DeFi integration into an upcoming financial services platform.

Beast Industries acquired Step the following month. However, the investment announcement did not establish that Step would be the platform used for any future DeFi integration.

In the spring, a Beast Industries spokesperson said the company was still evaluating its plans for Step. Bitmine also said the investment would provide access to MrBeast’s young audience and help accelerate adoption of Ethereum-related products.

Despite those earlier statements, Beast Industries has not announced plans to introduce digital assets to Step. For now, the app continues to focus on its existing financial products, while the company’s longer-term crypto strategy remains unconfirmed.

Korean stocks fall to historically "cheap" levels with no buyers, JPMorgan warns: Leverage-driven sell-off may continue

Excluding the influence of giants like Samsung and SK Hynix, the overall KOSPI is trading at just 8.4 times forward earnings, placing it in the 11th historical percentile. With stock buybacks by Samsung and SK Hynix having recently concluded, net sales by foreign investors, and weak demand from domestic institutions, Korean stocks are losing sources of buying exactly when the market most needs support. JPMorgan pointed out that although holdings of leveraged ETFs have faced large-scale sell-offs, they still remain high, and the possibility of another round of sell-offs cannot be ruled out.

CoreWeave bond plunge rings alarm bells, Fed may need to reassess rate hike pace

CoreWeave bond yields once surged to 15%, with junk-grade and investment-grade yields reaching their highest levels since 2025 and 2023, respectively. According to a Bloomberg column, as the 2028 high-yield debt maturity peak approaches, a disorderly widening of credit spreads could trigger a wave of defaults and rising unemployment. The Federal Reserve should stay put at its October meeting, maintaining the interest rate range at 3.75% to 4%, and prudently weigh its decision for December.
