According to Zhitong Finance APP, Toyota (TM.US) plans to use its own giant die-casting equipment to produce electric vehicles at a $2 billion invested Lexus factory in China. This is one of Toyota's latest moves to reverse declining sales in China and enhance its competitiveness. When asked whether Toyota would procure giant die-casting machines from local suppliers, Chief Technology Officer Hiroki Nakajima stated that the company is developing this technology “in-house.” The factory, located in Shanghai, is under construction and is expected to start producing vehicles in 2027.
