According to reports from CNBC and The Wall Street Journal, Meta Platforms (META.US) has launched a new open-weight AI model, Muse Spark Open, primarily aimed at programming and AI agent tasks, though its most powerful model has not been released to the public. Meta’s Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, stated that Muse Spark Open is not the company’s strongest model developed or released. Earlier this week, Meta’s Muse Wonder was also released, still using a closed-source model. Meta also acknowledged that, in software development and some other tasks, open-weight models from China still outperform Muse Spark Open. Meanwhile, Meta has reached a partnership with Apple (AAPL.US), enabling developers to run Muse Spark Open locally on multiple high-end Mac computers. Apple has updated its MLX software toolkit to support the model’s operation on Mac devices.

AI concerns outweigh inflation benefits, US dollar sees biggest single-day drop in over a month

Despite the U.S. September PPI posting its largest monthly increase in four years and retail sales exceeding expectations—factors that should have bolstered the dollar—risk aversion triggered by a sell-off in AI-related assets led to a flight to U.S. Treasuries, pushing yields lower and weighing on the dollar. As a result, the dollar fell by 0.3% on Thursday. Analysts noted that the dollar is closely linked to AI capital expenditures, and if the market grows concerned about the peak of AI investments, the dollar would be the first to take a hit.
