Strategy CEO Phong Le projects that the next 12 months will bring the largest increase in Bitcoin banking adoption on record. Banks now appear to have moved past debating the value of cryptocurrencies, with inflation, regulatory clarity, and rising client demand pushing more financial institutions into the sector.
Strategy CEO forecasts record surge in Bitcoin banking adoption, Fidelity leads US banks at 77%
Growing institutional interest in Bitcoin
Le described a firm shift in investor priorities. He stated that advances in artificial intelligence are beginning to undermine traditional stock markets, particularly companies dependent on human labor. In response, he believes that investment capital is increasingly seeking assets that are inherently scarce, such as Bitcoin.
The rise of AI-powered agents is also playing a role. Robots are unable to open accounts at conventional banks, making blockchain networks a practical environment for settlements and value storage.
As Strategy’s chief executive, Phong Le heads a firm specializing in digital asset strategies for businesses. The company is recognized for its research into institutional cryptocurrency adoption and market analysis.
Mini dictionary: Artificial intelligence agents, or AI agents, are autonomous software entities capable of perceiving their environment and acting on it to achieve designated goals. In financial services, they automate complex processes and decision-making, often requiring blockchain infrastructure for direct settlements.
Shift reflected in adoption data
Recent findings from the Bitcoin Banking Adoption Index support Le’s projections. In the third quarter of 2026, the engagement level across the world’s 30 leading banks rose to 34%. These institutions now derive the majority of their crypto-related revenue from services including digital asset custody, trading spot crypto funds, and offering Bitcoin-backed loans.
There are significant regional differences in adoption rates. Major US financial institutions have outpaced their global peers, with Fidelity overtaking others at a 77% adoption rate among Bitcoin banking products. JPMorgan Chase posted 47%, closely trailed by BNY with 46%, Goldman Sachs with 45%, and Morgan Stanley with 45%. These firms have deepened their crypto involvement, especially as Bitcoin trades above $81,600.
| Fidelity (US) | 77% |
| JPMorgan Chase (US) | 47% |
| BNY (US) | 46% |
| Goldman Sachs (US) | 45% |
| Morgan Stanley (US) | 45% |
| Barclays (UK) | 30% |
| Deutsche Bank (Germany) | 27% |
| MUFG (Japan) | 18% |
Meanwhile, leading European and Asian banks have taken a more tentative approach. Barclays holds an adoption rate of 30%, with Deutsche Bank at 27% and Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) at 18%. These organizations are primarily focusing on targeted pilot projects rather than large-scale service deployment.
Outlook for the coming year
The overall market for Bitcoin banking is still considered to be in its early stages, but skepticism has sharply declined across the industry. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor of Strategy described Bitcoin as “raw financial energy,” which corporations convert into digital credit for dynamic business use. The coming year is expected to demonstrate whether European finance companies can close the adoption gap or if dominant US banks will continue to consolidate their lead in the sector.
With growing pressure from inflation, regulations, and customer demand, many of the world’s largest banks have increased their involvement in Bitcoin services, particularly in custody, fund trading, and BTC-backed lending. US banks now dominate the landscape, but the question remains whether others will catch up as Bitcoin maintains prices above $81,600.
