Rio Tinto Group maintained stable copper production in the third quarter, with the Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia performing strongly, offsetting declines in other regions. Meanwhile, iron ore shipments also saw a slight increase. Copper accounted for over one-third of Rio Tinto’s revenue in the first half of this year, and copper production reached 205,000 tons in the three months ending September 30. Iron ore remains Rio Tinto’s largest source of income, and as the company gradually increases output from the Simandou joint venture project in Guinea, iron ore shipments in the third quarter rose 3% year-on-year to 90.8 million tons.
