Peter Brandt, a veteran commodities trader known for his technical analysis, has identified a potential long-term price target for Ethereum based on recent chart patterns. Brandt shared a chart on September 21 highlighting CME Ether futures, suggesting that Ethereum could eventually reach approximately $8,600, provided the cryptocurrency first decisively clears the $5,000 mark.
Peter Brandt sets $8,600 long-term Ethereum target if $5,000 is breached
Technical setup details
Brandt’s chart specifically notes a level near $8,674.50 as a possible destination for Ethereum if bullish momentum carries the price above $5,000. This scenario, according to Brandt, remains a conditional target rather than a short-term expectation.
At Ethereum’s current valuation near $2,688, reaching the $5,000 threshold would require the asset to rise by about 86%. Surpassing that, a move towards $8,600 would equate to more than tripling the current price.
Brandt argues that the technical setup becomes relevant only once Ethereum convincingly breaks through the $5,000 level, highlighting $8,600 as a potential long-term target under those conditions.
Ethereum has faced persistent resistance in the $2,775 to $2,825 range after climbing above $2,661 earlier in the month. Technical analysts have noted that a sustained break above this zone could shift focus to the $3,000 to $3,050 range in the near term.
Recent price analyses have emphasized $2,800 as a critical short-term breakout level. Previous technical outlooks for ETH mapped a path toward $3,050 if positive momentum continued, reinforcing the idea that Brandt’s $8,600 target should be seen as a long-term projection rather than an imminent move.
Investment flows and exchange supply
Between September 21 and September 24, US spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) registered approximately $576 million in net inflows over four consecutive sessions. Despite this robust capital inflow, ETH was unable to maintain prices above $2,800.
Coinpaper, a cryptocurrency analytics platform, has pointed out this divergence between strong ETF inflows and the inability of ETH to sustain gains above key resistance levels. This pattern suggests that market sentiment and actual price action have not been perfectly aligned in recent sessions.

In addition, Ethereum’s supply on centralized exchanges has remained constrained. Earlier this month, balances dropped to roughly 14.88 million ETH, reaching a multi-year low as staking activities continued absorbing circulating supply. This development signals ongoing investor interest in staking over trading, further tightening available exchange liquidity.
Mini dictionary: CME Ether futures refer to standardized Ethereum futures contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). These products allow institutional and retail investors to gain exposure to Ether price movements without holding the underlying asset directly.

What does Trump's "AI self-regulation" mean? Jensen Huang achieves a major victory, leads the charge questioning Anthropic's Amodei behind the scenes
Trump promotes AI "self-regulation," which appears to enhance safety but actually paves the way for the expansion of computing power: requirements for testing, auditing, and monitoring as part of "security compliance" will generate new demands for inference and optical interconnects, making Nvidia potentially the biggest winner. Jensen Huang even joined forces with Zuckerberg to oppose strict regulation, and directly questioned Anthropic's Amodei about his excessive public statements regarding AI risks.
